Palmyra Black Knights are pleased to support the use of Student Coaches on our teams. USA Hockey rules and regulations are followed for the Student Coaching Program.

Student Coaches gain valuable leadership experience. Whether or not a player aspires to become a coach in the future, this program focuses on developing life skills for our future leaders. They have the opportunity to participate with instruction on the ice, help the coaching staff demonstrate and teach hockey skills, and communicate effectively with players, coaching staff and parents.

The Student Coach program is open to any player between the age of 13 and 17 who is currently properly registered and rostered on a USA Hockey team. First year 14U/Bantam players are eligible to apply as they will be turning 13 in the upcoming season.

Palmyra Black Knight Student Coaches must adhere to the following rules:

Must attend a training session conducted by the Palmyra Black Knights prior to participating as a Student Coach. Training date TBD.
Must always be under the supervision of a certified/screened adult coach during all practices, clinics, and in the locker room.
May help out at practices and clinics only.
May NOT play during scrimmages or games.
Must wear a helmet with full face shield, gloves and skates while on the ice.
Must wear a helmet during games while on the bench.
May only work with players at least one full playing age level down (ex. Bantam may work with Pee Wee or below).
Must complete the online Student Coaching Application.
May NOT act as the head coach or assistant coach during practices or games.
Upon reaching the age of 18, the Student Coach must comply with the USA Hockey Screening Program and meet the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program requirements that will qualify him/her to act as an assistant or head coach.

Applications will be accepted until the end of August each season at which time the PBK Hockey Director will review all applications for approval/rejection.

Submitting an application to the Palmyra Black Knights Student Coaching Program is NOT a guarantee of acceptance. Palmyra Black Knights reserve the right to limit the number of applicants accepted based on our needs. Palmyra Black Knights reserve the right to reject any application.
